Our Commitment

At RedFowler Tollers, our commitment is rooted in preservation. We believe every Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever should be bred and raised with intention, honouring the breed’s history, protecting its defining characteristics, and safeguarding its future. Above all, each dog we produce is meant to be a well-rounded, sound, and versatile Toller, and a cherished member of the family.

We are dedicated to preserving the integrity of the breed through purposeful and selective breeding. Our decisions are guided by temperament, health, structure, and function, with careful consideration given to how each generation contributes positively to the breed as a whole. We strive to produce dogs that are not only correct in type and capable in purpose, but mentally and physically equipped for long, fulfilling lives.

Whether destined for hunting, sport, or companion homes, every RedFowler puppy begins life with the same thoughtful foundation; one built on care, intention, and respect for the breed. Through responsible preservation breeding and hands-on raising, we aim to better the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever while honoring the remarkable dogs that came before them.

Puppy Placement

Every puppy we raise is an individual, with their own temperament, energy level, drive, and personality. Thoughtful placement is essential to ensuring each puppy can grow into a confident, happy, and well-adjusted companion.

As breeders, we spend the earliest weeks of our puppies’ lives observing them closely, getting to know their strengths, sensitivities, play styles, confidence levels, and natural drives. This insight allows us to make informed placement decisions that go beyond appearance, focusing instead on long-term success for both the puppy and their family.

Equally important is getting to know our prospective families. We carefully consider lifestyle, experience, activity level, goals (such as companionship, sport, performance, or work), and household dynamics. By pairing each puppy with a home that aligns with their individual needs, we help set the foundation for a lifelong bond built on mutual understanding and fulfillment.

Our placement process is guided by a deep commitment to the lifelong well-being of our dogs. Thoughtful matching gives each puppy the best opportunity to thrive while helping families feel confident and supported as their journey together begins. While we value and respect family preferences, final placement decisions are made by us with great care, always with the best interests at heart.

Purposeful Exposure from Day One

Our puppies are born and raised in our home.  From their very first days, they are surrounded by the sights, sounds, and rhythms of daily family life. This ensures they grow up confident, curious, and well-socialized.

We believe in purposeful exposure by introducing puppies to a variety of new experiences during critical development stages. This includes:

  • Early neurological stimulation (ENS)
  • Exposure to household noises, children, other dogs, and guests
  • Short, positive car rides to build comfort and confidence with travel
  • Safe exploration of different surfaces, toys, and environments
  • Introduction to water, bird wings, and basic retrieving
  • Age-appropriate challenges that build confidence and problem-solving

This approach creates resilient, balanced puppies who are better prepared for life in their forever homes.

What We Stand For

  • Temperament: A sound, biddable, and loving temperament is non-negotiable. Our dogs are chosen for their friendliness, biddability, and joyful nature.
  • Health: We follow all recommended health testing through OFA and CKC to ensure we are making responsible, informed breeding decisions.
  • Structure: We aim to produce dogs that meet the breed standard in both form and function.
  • Life-Ready Dogs: Our Tollers are exposed to real-life situations. From the duck blind to the confirmation ring to the family living room; our dogs can do it all.

At RedFowler Tollers, we don’t just breed dogs,  we raise capable, confident companions who are ready to thrive in whatever life has in store. Our Tollers are our passion, our pride, and part of our family,  and that’s exactly how we raise them.

Puppy Questionnaire — Coming this fall

Our puppy questionnaire will open this fall, following the completion of health testing. We invite you to check back for updates on when applications will be accepted.

Every Toller has a unique personality, energy level, and temperament, and we want to ensure each puppy thrives in a home that suits them best. Because of this careful process, completing a questionnaire does not guarantee a puppy, as we prioritize thoughtful placement and the well-being of both our dogs and their families.

When the questionnaire is open, completed applications will be kept on file for up to one year and thoughtfully reviewed as we plan future litters.

We understand that life can change, and your circumstances may too. If anything shifts, or if you’d like to update your information, please don’t hesitate to let us know. You are always welcome to submit an updated questionnaire so your file reflects your current situation and wishes.

Thank you for your patience and interest in choosing RedFowler.  It’s a privilege to be apart of this journey with you, and we look forward to welcoming our puppies into loving, thoughtful homes in the future!
